What is Server?
A server is a software or hardware device that accepts and responds to requests made over a network.
The device that makes the request, and receives a response from the server, is called a client. On the
Internet, the term “server” commonly refers to the computer system that receives a request for a web
document, and sends the requested information to the client.

A large group of networked computer servers typically used by organizations for the remote storage,
processing, or distribution of large amounts of data.
What is Rack?
A data center rack is a type of physical steel and electronic framework that is designed to house
servers, networking devices, cables and other data center computing equipment. This physical
structure provides equipment placement and orchestration within a data center facility.
What is a Rack Unit?
A rack unit is a unit of measure used to describe the height of a server, network switch or other similar
device mounted in a 19-inch rack or a 23-inch rack. One rack unit is 1.75cm in high. One rack unit is
commonly designated as “1U” similarly, 2 rack units are “2U” and so on.
What is Rack Server?
A rack server, also called a rack-mounted server, is a computer dedicated to use as a server and
designed to be installed in a framework called a rack. The rack contains multiple mounting slots called
bays, each designed to hold a hardware unit secured in place with screws.

Dell Life-cycle Controller is an advanced embedded systems management technology that enables
remote server management using integrated Dell Remote Access Controller. Using Life-cycle
Controller, you can update the firmware using a local or Dell-based firmware repository.
What is Dell RAID Controller?
The Dell RAID Controller is a family of enterprise-class controllers is designed for enhanced
performance, increased reliability, fault tolerance, and simplified management- providing a powerful,
easy to manage way to create a  robust infrastructure and help maximize server up-time.


What is IDRAC?
An integrated Dell Remote Access Controller with Life-cycle Controller is embedded in every Dell
Power Edge server. It provides functionality that helps you deploy, update, monitor and maintain Dell
Power Edge servers with or without a systems management software agent.

The iDRAC is a piece of hardware that sits on the server motherboard that allows Systems
Administrators to update and manage Dell systems, even when the server is turned off.
